The opening round of the SA Endurance National Championship delivered non-stop excitement at Zwartkops Raceway, as motorsport enthusiasts witnessed a weekend filled with high-speed battles, dramatic moments, and breakout performances across various racing categories.
Adcock, Jensen, and Naicker Dominate the Endurance Thriller
In a spectacular start to the season, Nick Adcock, Michael Jensen, and 17-year-old Ryan Naicker secured a commanding victory in the Samlin Racing Four Hours of Zwartkops. Driving the Rico Barlow Racing/Adjust for Sleep Nova, the trio fought off tough competition, particularly from reigning champions Xolile Letlaka and Stuart White in the Into Africa Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo. A dramatic racing incident at the midway mark cost Letlaka and White valuable time, relegating them to second place.
The podium was rounded off by Steve Clark and Mike McLaughlin in their Backdraft Roadster, an inspiring comeback story after their primary car suffered mechanical failure before qualifying. Their decision to enter a spare car in Class A paid off, securing crucial championship points.
Support Races Keep Fans on the Edge of Their Seats
Alongside the endurance showdown, the event also featured electrifying support races, including GT Cup SA, Sports & GT, and the Motorcycle Racing Series South Africa (MRSSA).
GT Cup SA
The debut of the GT Cup SA series saw Charl Arangies dominate, clinching victories in all three races in his Porsche 911 GT3 R. However, rising star Ryan Naicker proved his mettle, finishing second in the final race after intense battles with Arnold Neveling and Mo Mia.
Sports & GT
The Sports & GT races saw Andrew Horne (Ligier-Honda JS49) take a comfortable win in the first race, while Mike Verrier (Shelby CanAm) fought back to claim victory in the second. Close racing and strategic driving made these events a highlight of the weekend.
MRSSA Motorcycle Racing
The MRSSA Motorcycle races showcased high-speed duels across multiple categories. Adolf Boshoff (Honda CBR 1000 RRR) took top honors in the premier Superbike class, while Ora Phiri (Yamaha YZF) led an exciting 600cc battle.
Looking Ahead
With the season now underway, all eyes turn to the SAE Five Hours of Aldo Scribante, set to take place in Gqeberha on the 5th of April. The championship fight is heating up, promising more intense racing and unforgettable moments.
