DJ and Producer duo, Vetkuk and Mahoota have been setting dancefloors ablaze for years and reinventing their craft through the everchanging sound of dance music. The pair returns with their latest hit, ‘Ongwana’, featuring Amapiano golden child, Kabza De Small. The song starts off with an infectious drum and percussions loop that steadily builds up to the catchy vocals with lyrics about young people overstaying their welcome at a party because the vibe is too lit. ‘Ongwana’ is not a far cry from Vetkuk and Mahoota’s other Amapiano hits such as ‘Ha Omorata’ and ‘SBWL Ubumnandi’ and will surely serve as a party anthem.
Ziwa Murtu, hitmakers and dance music legends Vetkuk vs Mahoota released their summer anthem, Ongwana with Kabza De Small ft Master Piece and Charlie in late December 2021. The song immediately became a TikTok hit sensation, allowing the famous producers to create a dance challenge that would see South Africans join in on the fun, every time the song played. The Ongwana challenge spread like wildfire and was even seen done by some of our favourite local celebrities.
To applaud the success of the dance challenge, the duo has released a music video that features, almost everyone that joined in on the Ongwana challenge. Shot in the format of the TikTok interface, the music video takes you on a journey that explores the single’s accomplishments since its release. The visual’s opening sees a very distressed Mahoota and Vetkuk in the township knocking on Charlie’s door, cut away to them going around the country and doing the challenge on every dance floor. Some celebrities that make a cameo on this video include AKA, Lamiez Hollworthy, Robot Boi and Kalwa JazzMe’s Oskido all doing the challenge which is a representation of how the whole the dance culture in SA was given birth to by Mahoota and Vetkuk.
