Following the massive success of her debut album Imizwa, which achieved Gold status, multi-award-winning vocalist Lwah Ndlunkulu is back with a powerful new single, Mnakwethu. This heartfelt track offers a glimpse into what fans can expect from her highly anticipated sophomore album.

Mnakwethu, meaning “sister wife,” is a poignant love ode that delves into the complexities of modern relationships. Lwah’s soulful voice captures the pain and frustration of suspecting infidelity, as she sings about a partner who barely calls or posts about her. The song opens with the haunting lines, “Bengicela avele umnakwethu sikulume ngendoda yethu lena ayenza ingafowuni kuphela amalanga ngingayiboni” (I’m pleading with my sister wife to talk about our man, who doesn’t call or show up for days). These lyrics paint a vivid picture of the emotional turmoil of being in a love triangle, a situation many can relate to.

She draws inspiration from her own past experiences and those of her friends, making Mnakwethu a deeply personal and relatable anthem. The song explores the chest pains of mjolo (dating) and the difficult choices one must make when love is entangled with betrayal.

Speaking about the single, Lwah shared, “This song is very close to my heart because it reflects real-life experiences not just mine, but also those of people around me. Love can be beautiful, but it can also bring pain, and I wanted to capture that duality in Mnakwethu.”

With her signature emotive delivery and powerful storytelling, She continues to solidify her place as one of South Africa’s most talented and authentic artists. Mnakwethu is a testament to her ability to connect with listeners on a deeply emotional level, and it sets the stage for what promises to be an exceptional sophomore album.

Lwah is available for interviews to discuss her new single, the inspiration behind it, and her plans for the rest of the year.
